Expansion Of Online Advertising
Since the beginning of the internet, it was fairly apparent that this "new" technology would take the world by storm, and would probably be the communication medium of the future. That was certainly an underestimate. The internet is now the most important part of business, communication, and money making in the entire world, and it would be fair to say that if the internet didn't exist - we would not have even half of the products we currently have today.
These days, advertising online is offered by thousands of websites. Whether they host the ads themselves, or whether they distribute your banners and text ads out to the masses, facilitating advertising is a multi billion dollar industry.
Just look at Google for example. Starting off in a small garage, the company is now the powerhouse of the internet - the site where people turn when they don't know where else to go, and the site which provides numerous solutions to every day products.
This amazing success story was the result of just one thing - online advertising. But in recent times (even though the profits of this online giant have continued to skyrocket), the share of advertising revenue that it nets is well down on historical levels. Why? Because a huge number of new, innovative advertising companies are now offering solutions far different from what Google has to offer.
It seems that as the popularity of the pay per click model has soared, so has the desire to advertise by different and fresh methods. Take YouTube for example - another massive site hosting videos from its users. Instead of planting banners and text ads around this website - the company (which is now owned by Google), has thought of new ways to solve the revenue generating problem.
By placing ads at the beginning of videos, and even overlaying ads on some videos - the company is able to offer a different product from the traditional models over at its parent site.
This is just one example. As companies realize that the demand for online advertising is virtually endless, they are desperately trying to come up with new and innovative ways to get product in front of consumers eyes in a relevant, targeted way. This objective seems to have no end. Indeed, the desire to make cold hard cash as a result of internet advertising is s great, that people will constantly be changing and refreshing the rules of this marvellous online medium.
